ABOUT US
Somali Helping Hands Association (SOHHA) is a local, non-profit, non-governmental, and non-sectarian organization established and managed by Somali professionals. The organization was conceptualized in mid-2014 and officially launched in January 2018 following broad consultations with community stakeholders in Bakool Region, including traditional leaders, business leaders, women groups, youth, and religious scholars.
SOHHA was founded to respond to humanitarian and development challenges affecting vulnerable populations, particularly internally displaced persons (IDPs), returnees, refugees, and host communities. The organization delivers professional, community-driven services aimed at improving livelihoods, health, education, food security, and environmental sustainability.
With its roots in Bakool Region, SOHHA works to transform the region’s image from one of persistent humanitarian crisis to a region in transition toward resilience, self-reliance, and sustainable development. The organization operates across multiple districts in Southwest and Hirshabelle States of Somalia, implementing integrated programs in health, nutrition, water and sanitation, education, livelihoods, agriculture, and emergency response.
Guided by principles of transparency, accountability, community participation, and sustainability, SOHHA collaborates closely with local communities, authorities, and development partners to ensure effective and lasting impact.

OUR MISSION
The mission of Somali Helping Hands Association (SOHHA) is to improve the livelihoods, health, nutrition, and overall well-being of vulnerable and marginalized communities in Somalia through integrated humanitarian assistance and sustainable development interventions. We focus on addressing both immediate humanitarian needs and long-term development challenges affecting internally displaced persons (IDPs), returnees, refugees, and host communities.
SOHHA is committed to community participation, accountability, and transparency in the design and implementation of its programs. Working in partnership with local communities, authorities, and development partners, the organization delivers effective services in health, nutrition, water and sanitation, education, livelihoods, agriculture, environmental protection, and emergency response.
Through capacity building, skills development, and inclusive approaches, SOHHA seeks to strengthen community resilience, promote self-reliance, and support sustainable recovery and development. The organization also strives to foster social cohesion, peace, and dignity, while ensuring that no one is left behind.
In addition, SOHHA aims to empower communities to take ownership of their development by strengthening local institutions, promoting equitable access to basic services, and enhancing the capacity of communities to prepare for, respond to, and recover from shocks and crises in a sustainable manner.
OUR VISION
The vision of Somali Helping Hands Association (SOHHA) is to see resilient, healthy, and self-reliant communities in Bakool Region and across Somalia, where all people live with dignity, safety, and equal access to essential social, economic, and humanitarian services. We envision communities free from famine, malnutrition, preventable diseases, environmental degradation, and prolonged humanitarian dependency.
SOHHA envisions towns and rural areas with clean and hygienic environments, rehabilitated and functional public infrastructure, and strong local systems that support sustainable livelihoods, quality education, and accessible healthcare. Our vision includes communities protected from harmful hazards such as landmines, unexploded ordnance, and other threats that undermine human safety and development.
Through inclusive, community-led, and sustainable approaches, SOHHA envisions a future where internally displaced persons (IDPs), returnees, refugees, and host communities are empowered to rebuild their lives, strengthen resilience to shocks and disasters, and actively contribute to peaceful coexistence, social cohesion, and long-term stability. Ultimately, SOHHA strives for a Somalia where communities are capable of managing their own development, sustaining progress, and passing on a safer, healthier, and more prosperous future to the next generation.
